Many dog food brands fill their dog food with additives, dyes, highly processed ingredients, and unknown “meat byproducts.” Just thinking about this is enough to make us shudder, and it’s the reason that so many dog parents are turning to homemade dog food.
Making homemade dog food allows you to control exactly what your dog is eating so that you can avoid less desirable ingredients and ensure that your dog is eating nutrient-rich meals throughout the day.
Lamb is a popular ingredient in homemade dog food that provides many health benefits for your pup. Lamb is especially gentle on the stomach and an amazing choice for a dog with food sensitivities. It’s also rich in various vitamins and minerals, including iron, vitamin B12, and zinc.
If your pup has a sensitive tummy, the following recipe is sure to be a hit.

FAQ About Lamb Dog Food
How Long Is This Recipe Good For?
You can store any leftovers for around four to five days in your fridge. Other portions can be frozen in airtight containers and stored in your freezer for up to two months. Depending on how much your dog eats, you may choose to freeze some food and keep the rest in your fridge for the next few days.
As a general rule of thumb, most veterinarians recommend feeding your dog twice a day to keep their energy levels consistent. However, we always recommend consulting with your veterinarian for personalized advice on how to best care for your pup.
Is This Lamb Recipe Good for Dogs?
This lamb recipe is a healthy and wholesome recipe for your pup and is very easy to whip up in a short amount of time.
However, studies show that most homemade recipes lack the essential nutrients your pup needs. For example, out of over 200 homemade recipes from 34 different sources, including veterinary textbooks, only nine of the 200 recipes included all of the essential nutrients in concentrations that met the minimum adult dog standards created by the Association of American Feed Control Officials(AAFCO).
To ensure your pup receives all the nutrients they need from their food; we recommend looking into a premade supplement mix to add to your dog’s meals. We also advise consulting a board-certified veterinary nutritionist to find the very best ingredients to use for your loved one.
Is Lamb Easy to Digest for Dogs?
Yes! Most dogs find lamb an easier protein to digest. However, all dogs are different.
If you find that your dog has a sensitive stomach on a chicken or beef-based diet, then it’s worth trying a different protein source. Lamb is especially gentle, so this may be an excellent way to try and resolve the issue.
Is Lamb and Rice Dog Food Better than Chicken and Rice?
Whether lamb and rice dog food is better than chicken and rice will depend on the dog and their individual needs. All dogs are unique and have different sensitivities. For example, some dogs may react better to chicken, while others may prefer lamb.
With that said, lamb is a great protein choice for a dog with food allergy symptoms. Common food allergy symptoms can include dry skin, rash, dandruff, and hair loss. These symptoms will appear differently on different dog coats and may be harder to recognize on some hair types.
If your dog has sensitivities, lamb can be a great choice for your pup. But, as always, we recommend consulting your dog’s veterinarian before transitioning them to another dog food.
Are Lamb and Rice Good for Dog’s Skin?
Lamb and rice is a gentle option that can be good for your dog’s skin. However, due to food allergies and sensitivities, many dogs struggle with skin issues, like flakiness and dryness.
Since lamb and rice are gentle on the stomach, your dog’s skin may improve on a lamb and rice diet if something in their current diet is irritating them.
